Building your resume and portfolio

The 6 Degrees internship is an educational opportunity for students interested in arts administration to work in collaboration with Ramapo High School Drama Club to explore facets of the arts administration industry and begin building their resume for a career in the sector.


The internship will be led by Cheyenne Myrie (‘14) who has over 7 years of experience in theatrical production and arts administration and has worked at multiple arts education organizations. Cheyenne Myrie holds a B.A. in Arts Management, an M.A. in Black Theatre History and Narrative, and has worked for New 42, Girl Be Heard, and many more. She currently serves as the Director of Institutional Advancement for The Theater Offensive, where she uses her expertise in fundraising and marketing as well as strategic planning to further their mission. 6 Degrees Apart LLC was founded by Cheyenne as an arts administration organization providing education, resources, and support to individuals and organizations in the creative sphere. 


Objectives

  • Gain a clear understanding of arts administration and its functions across the theater industry

  • Learn how to create and execute marketing and fundraising plans for Ramapo High School Drama Club

  • Learn about educational and work experience paths for careers in arts administration

  • Learn how to craft strong resumes and cover letters

  • Craft a LinkedIn profile

  • Create repeatable structures for internship and funding for Ramapo High School Drama Club


Requirements

  • Must be willing to meet on Saturdays at Ramapo High School for in-person sessions and willing to commit time to fundraising and marketing efforts during the school week

  • Must be interested in supporting Ramapo High School Drama Club 

  • Must commit to attending the full length of the internship from December 2022-March 2023. Failure to attend regular meetings will result in dismissal from the internship program.


Tentative Timeline

November 2022 - Application Opens

December 2022 - Internship Begins - Focus on foundational knowledge and planning

January 2023 - Focus on grant applications and different marketing platforms and their uses

February 2023 - Marketing goes live,

March 2023 - Spring Musical/Internship Ends


Projected Outcomes

  • Work experience for college applications and work applications

  • Resumes and cover letters for both arts career paths and non-arts career paths

  • Funds for Ramapo High School Drama Club

  • Understanding of arts administration field

  • Portfolio of work for college applications and work applications

  • Understanding of granting process as well as donor solicitation

  • Learn how to do grant research
